Title
Chip-integrated Superconducting Coherent Millimetre-Waves and Terahertz Devices

Abstract:

Current compact and coherent source and receiver technologies are generally inefficient and
impractical at millimetres (mm)-waves and terahertz (THz) frequencies between 0.1 and 10
THz. We develop voltage-tunable chip-integrated continuous waves (cw) and pulse coherent
light sources based on Josephson junctions in layered and metallic superconducting nanoscale
devices and circuits.
In this lecture, I will first discuss the fundamental physics of the cw/pulse coherent light
radiation from Josephson junctions emitters [1,2]. I will continue with an introduction to the
superconducting mm- and THz waves device micro- and nanofabrication, and their on-chip
integration [3]. I will conclude by demonstrating results on the potential applications of
superconducting coherent light sources in cutting-edge technologies [4].
